What a great audience!
They seemed to love our first full concert of the season. The acoustics in the church were very good which helped us to perform well, in my opinion, and it was backed up by the enthusiastic applause we were given. Even Aileen appeared pleased.
The 3 solo spots were very ably filled by Pat Leonard from the Bass section, Sam Monaghan from the 2nd Tenors and Paul Kane from the 1st Tenors.
There were 3 new pieces added to the programme for this season. They were:
- In Christ Alone, written by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty and arranged by Andrew Goddard.
- Gonna Rise Up Singing, written by Don Besig
- Tell My Father, Words by Jack Murphy, Music by Frank Wildhorn and Arranged by Andrea Ramsey. It is taken from a Broadway musical called “The Civil War: An American Musical”
When we were first asked to do this concert we did not realise that this was a fund raising event for the St. Kessog’s Orphanage, which the church had set up approx. 11 years ago in Kampala, Uganda. At present there are 32 children/young people in the orphanage, aged between 8 and 25 years. Unfortunately the orphanage receives no funding from the Archdiocese or the government.
We don’t know how much was raised by our concert but we wish them well in their efforts.
Also our thanks must go to the Ladies of the church who put on a lovely, after concert spread, in their church halls. The tea & coffee as well as the rolls, cakes, scones etc. were much appreciated by the choir, who tucked in with gusto! Mind you, they always do!! For me, personally, it is the cup of tea after 90 minutes of singing that hits the spot.
Our next concert.
There is no rest for the Choir as we have another concert next Friday, the 27th October 2017. It will be a joint Concert with the Ladies of the New Castlemilk Parish Church. Details can be found in our Upcoming Concerts Menu above.
